Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is getting hammered after she struggled to answer basic questions about the nation’s schools and her failure to defend the Trump administration’s newly proposed school safety measures during a slew of television interviews.

Speaking of hammers, Representative Jared Huffman, a Democrat who represents California, went as far to say in a tweet that DeVos is “rich, white, and dumber than a box of hammers.”

“Dear President Trump, if you want to meet someone who has an actual IQ problem (as opposed to just being black), meet your Education Secretary Betsy DeVos,” Huffman tweeted. “Rich, white, and dumber than a bag of hammers.”

It all stems from a pointed interview “60 Minutes” interview with CBS correspondent Lesley Stahl that aired Sunday evening, where DeVos was unable to defend her belief that public schools can perform better when funding is removed and injected into charter schools and private school vouchers.

“Have the public schools in Michigan gotten better?” Stahl questioned DeVos.

“I don’t know. Overall…I can’t say overall that they have all gotten better,” DeVos replied.

“The whole state is not doing well,” Stahl responded.

“Well, there are certainly lots of pockets where the students are doing well,” DeVos said.

“Your argument that if you take funds away that the schools will get better is not working in Michigan.”

According to the National Assessment of Education Process, Michigan has led the nation with the lowest test score gains for 25 years consecutively.
