Whether you love him or hate him, it’s certainly hard to ignore the presence of President Trump on Twitter.
The Commander In Chief has been an active Twitter user for 7 years now and continues to gain monumental amounts of attention from both the mainstream media and celebrities alike.
Let’s revisit some of the President’s greatest hits from the past year that has sent the media into a whirlwind of emotion and rage.
#1 – Trump Tackling CNN Gif
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 2, 2017
This now famous gif of Trump tackling a man whose head was replaced with a CNN logo took the country by storm, leading CNN to actually track down the creator of the meme.
The redditor who claimed credit for the joke, HanA**holeSolo, then issued an apology after CNN identified the man on Facebook.
The post ended up generating almost 400,000 retweets, almost 600,000 likes and was Trump’s 1st most retweeted and 2nd most liked tweet of 2017.
#2 – Calling Out Kim-Jong Un
Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me “old,” when I would NEVER call him “short and fat?” Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 12, 2017
If there’s one thing we know about the President, it’s that he’s a counter-puncher. He’s not afraid to call out his enemies, especially when they oust him first.
In response, the North Korean newspaper reported that Trump is “…a hideous criminal sentenced to death by the Korean people.”
Somehow I don’t think the President is too worried.
The post was Trump’s 1st most favorited tweet, coming in at over 600,000 likes, and the 2nd most retweeted tweet, ranking at almost 300,000 retweets.
#3 – Putting LaVar Ball In His Place
In early November 2017, 3 UCLA basketball players were detained for over a week after allegedly shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store in Hangzhou, China.
After President Trump intervened and freed the boys (sparing them from up to 10 years in prison), one boy’s father was not too gracious for the President’s successful negotiations.
LaVar Ball, the father of one of the players, LiAngelo Ball, had this to say about the actions of the President: “What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out.”
Trump swiftly responded to Ball’s ungracious attitude by sending out the following tweet.
Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to have much of an effect, as Ball went on to double down on his stance in a 22-minute interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
I have to admit that it was pretty humorous to watch a CNN anchor appear to take Trump’s side. That’s not something you get to see every day.
Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!

#4 – Exposing ‘Fake News’
It’s no secret that the mainstream media and President Trump aren’t exactly friends.
Trump’s war with the press arguably became a cornerstone of his 2016 campaign and is one of the things that his supporters love him for and his detractors especially despise him for.

#5 – Trump Vs. Chuck Schumer
President Trump LOVES nicknames – whether it’s Crooked Hillary or Low Energy Jeb.
After Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer & House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi suffered audio difficulties at a rally calling on supporters to protest Trump’s newly-enacted travel ban, Trump fired out this tweet:
Nancy Pelosi and Fake Tears Chuck Schumer held a rally at the steps of The Supreme Court and mic did not work (a mess)-just like Dem party!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 31, 2017
Later that year, Trump came up with a new moniker for the New York Democratic Senator after he slammed Trump’s decision to fire then FBI Director James Comey:
Cryin’ Chuck Schumer stated recently, “I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer.” Then acts so indignant. #draintheswamp

If one thing is for certain, it’s that Twitter would not be the same without the President’s commentary. While 2017 was certainly an emotionally-charged year for Trump supporters and detractors alike, we can only wait and see what 2018 will bring.
