The bad news keeps coming for the NFL. Sponsors and fans are abandoning the league in droves with no sign of coming back anytime soon.
And this time it is the left side of the aisle that is yanking sponsorships from the NFL.
There has been a rash of sponsors pulling ads from the league over the anthem protests and now we have a massive backlash over Cam Newton’s disparaging comments to a female reporter.
According to ESPN, one of the star Carolina Panthers quarterback’s sponsors said it will “no longer work with him.”
Michael Neuwirth, a spokesperson for Dannon, maker of the Oikos yogurt brand, confirmed the news. He issued with a statement explaining that the brand was “shocked and disheartened at the behavior and comments of Cam Newton towards [Charlotte Observer reporter] Jourdan Rodrigue, which we perceive as sexist and disparaging to all women.”
“It is entirely inconsistent with our commitment to fostering equality and inclusion in every workplace. It’s simply not OK to belittle anyone based on gender. We have shared our concerns with Cam and will no longer work with him.”
Another one bites the dust. It seems the NFL can’t get a win these days – empty stadiums, falling ratings, fan boycotts, sponsors pulling out.
They need to get it together.
This is what Cam Newton said and you can judge for yourself if you think the punishment fit the crime.
